Lagos Mega Housing Boost: Sanwo-Olu Drops 233 New Homes, Hits 11,000 Milestone!

Lagos State is getting a serious housing upgrade! Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has just unveiled a brand-new housing scheme packed with 233 apartments in Ajah. This big reveal isn’t just about shiny new buildings; it’s a major milestone, marking a whopping 11,000 homes delivered under his administration in the past six years. This is a huge step in tackling Lagos’s famous housing challenge.

Big Unveiling in Ajah

The star of the show is the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate, Parcels A and B. This isn’t just any estate; it’s a result of smart collaboration between the Lagos State government and Urban Shelter Limited. Inside, you’ll find a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, plus stylish terraces and semi-detached houses. It’s designed to offer something for everyone!

A Strategy for Growth

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted how this project shows the real value of Lagos real estate and how working with the private sector is key to solving the massive housing gap. While people have sometimes debated the exact number of homes built, the Governor’s figure of 11,000 units is the most complete number we’ve seen yet. It covers homes for folks earning low, medium, and high incomes all across the state. This includes recent projects like the 420 apartments in Badagry and this new one in Ajah.

“Our commitment to increasing the stock of modern homes and apartments is unwavering,” stated Governor Sanwo-Olu. He acknowledges that as Nigeria’s major urban hub, the demand for housing is always going to be a challenge.

The government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda is all about making Lagos attractive for investors. They’re offering land as a stake in projects and giving financial boosts like a 40% discount on permits and various tax breaks. This encourage more development, making it easier for companies to build much needed homes.

When Promises Aren’t Met

But it’s not all smooth sailing. The Governor also sent a strong message to partners who aren’t keeping up their end of the deal. “We are watching joint-venture partners who have missed their deadlines. Their delays mean unfinished housing projects and slow down our progress,” he warned.

The state government is seriously reviewing projects that are taking too long or not meeting quality standards. Some might even lose their contracts. This shows they are serious about delivering quality housing on time.

What’s Next on the Horizon?

The administration is determined to push forward with more housing projects before their current term ends. Keep an eye out for:

  • The Epe Housing Scheme at Ita Marun
  • Sangotedo Phase 2
  • Egan-Igando Clusters II & III
  • Ibeshe Phase 2

These projects are all part of the plan to keep building more homes for Lagos residents.

A Model for Future Success

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, praised the Ajah project as a perfect example of a successful public-private partnership. This collaboration started way back in 2019 with a vision to make the most of the land at the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate. He urged the new residents to take good care of the estate, keep it peaceful, and help it become a shining example for other communities.

“The success of this estate now depends on the values you uphold and how you protect what has been given to you,” he advised the homeowners.

This is a significant development for Lagos, showing a commitment to providing much-needed housing and fostering growth through smart partnerships. It’s great news for many families looking for a place to call home.
