Wike’s Road Blitz: More Infrastructure Coming to FCT Area Councils!

Get ready for some major road upgrades in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)! Minister Nyesom Wike is on a mission to boost infrastructure in the area councils, and it looks like residents are about to see some serious improvements. This is not just about smoother rides, it’s about development and growth.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening:

  • More roads are being built in the area councils.
  • Abaji residents are already enjoying a new access road.
  • President Tinubu’s dual development plan is in full swing.
  • More projects are coming in May to celebrate Tinubu’s second year in office.

Wike’s Promises: Road Construction and More

Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, has committed to constructing more road infrastructure across the area councils. This is big news for those living outside the main city. During the inauguration of the Naharati – River Ukya – Uguwan Hausawa access road in Abaji, Wike made it clear that the focus is on developing both Abuja city and its satellite towns. This week alone, several projects are being launched in the six area councils.

Abaji Area Council Gets a Boost

The newly inaugurated Naharati – River Ukya – Uguwan Hausawa road is a game-changer for Abaji residents. But that’s not all! Wike also assured that more road projects are in the pipeline, with funds already set aside in the 2025 budget. This is good news for connectivity and mobility. This road fulfills a promise made back in 2023. Besides, two new police divisions are on the way and are expected to be completed and launched soon and construction is also ongoing at the FCT University of Science and Technology, Abaji. Wike was also honoured with the traditional title “Hasken Abaji” which means “The Light of Abaji”. The minister dedicated this title to President Tinubu, calling him “the light of Nigeria”.

Why Are These Road Projects Important?

According to the Coordinator, Satellite Towns Development Department, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, these projects are in line with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” They are aimed at creating an environment that improves the quality of life for people living in the satellite towns and area councils. This means:

  • More job opportunities
  • Better movement of goods and services
  • Easier access to farm produce
  • Reduced travel times
  • Less rural-urban migration

Abaji Area Council: More Than Just Roads

The Chairman of the council, Mr. Abubakar Abdullahi, stated that this road connects Naharati residents with Abaji town for the first time, which is a massive step forward. But wait, there’s more: a brand-new 80-bed hospital in Abaji has been completed to take care of the residents’ health needs, and a 750-capacity ultra-modern information and communication technology centre is being built, showing that they are investing in the future.

What’s Next?

The momentum isn’t stopping here, as more projects are planned for inauguration in May to celebrate President Tinubu’s second year in office. It’s an exciting time for the FCT area councils as Wike’s road construction blitz looks set to change the face of the region.
