Nigeria’s Tourism Gears Up! FTAN and NTDA Forge Powerful Alliance for Global Spotlight

Get ready, Naija! Our incredible tourism sector is about to get a major boost! The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) and the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) are teaming up like never before to put Nigeria on the global map. This isn’t just another handshake; it’s a strategic partnership aimed at shouting about our beautiful country from the rooftops.

Here’s the lowdown on this exciting development:

  • FTAN and NTDA are signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint international marketing.
  • This collaboration is set to elevate Nigeria’s tourism profile significantly.
  • Key events like the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition (NTIFE) 2025 will play a crucial role.
  • Expect a stronger, more unified approach to promoting Nigerian attractions.

Tourism Powerhouses Unite!

The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), led by its President, Dr. Aliyu Badaki, recently paid a courtesy visit to the new Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Olayiwola Awakan. This meeting was more than just pleasantries; it was a declaration of intent to work hand-in-hand to achieve common goals that will benefit Nigeria’s booming tourism industry. Dr. Badaki expressed his delight at the new DG’s assumption of office, emphasizing that this fresh leadership would propel their collaborative efforts to unprecedented heights.

“We are looking to open new doors and explore untapped potential for the good of both our organizations and the sector at large,” Dr. Badaki stated. He also took the opportunity to inform the DG about the upcoming Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition (NTIFE), scheduled for November 28, 2025, in Abuja. The DG has been cordially invited as a Special Guest of Honour, highlighting the significance of this event.

A Grand Vision for Nigerian Tourism

The First Deputy President of FTAN, Mrs. Susan Akporiaye, echoed the sentiments of collaboration. She stressed the critical importance of a united front in promoting and marketing Nigerian tourism on the international stage. “We are committed to leading the charge in showcasing Nigeria’s unique offerings to the world,” she affirmed. To make this happen, FTAN and NTDA are set to solidify their partnership with a formal MOU. This agreement, expected to be signed at NTIFE 2025 after a thorough review by NTDA, will lay the groundwork for robust joint marketing and promotion strategies.

Mrs. Akporiaye also highlighted that active physical presence at global travel markets and exhibitions is non-negotiable for success. She proposed the formation of a joint committee composed of members from both FTAN and NTDA. This committee will ensure that marketing strategies are planned and executed effectively and in a timely manner, preventing any slip-ups.

NTDA’s Commitment to Growth

Director General Olayiwola Awakan expressed his sincere gratitude for FTAN’s visit, noting his long-standing connection with the Federation. He passionately reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening the ties between the NTDA and the private sector. “My tenure will be dedicated to fostering collaborative programs and initiatives that perfectly align with the Federal Government’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’,” he promised. This means that tourism development will be a key focus, integrating with broader national development plans.

Why is this partnership so important?

Nigeria is blessed with diverse cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities. However, effectively marketing these assets to an international audience requires a coordinated and strategic approach. Previously, efforts might have been fragmented, but this MOU signals a new era of synergy. The joint marketing efforts will likely focus on:

  • Highlighting Nigeria’s unique cultural festivals.
  • Promoting eco-tourism destinations.
  • Showcasing business and investment opportunities within the tourism sector.
  • Improving the overall perception of Nigeria as a safe and attractive tourist destination.

This collaboration is a significant step towards unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s tourism economy, creating jobs, and boosting foreign exchange earnings. It’s a win-win situation for the industry and the nation!
