Jigawa Interdiction and Kano Follow-Up
In a separate but related operation, NDLEA operatives in Jigawa, acting on intelligence, intercepted consignments of opioids being transported from Kano to Niger Republic and Yobe. The drugs were concealed in a Toyota Sienna vehicle, leading to the arrest of Abba Ibrahim, 28, and Shuaibu Umar.
Massive Opioid Seizure
The interdiction yielded 200,000 pills of tramadol 250mg and 217,500 capsules of pregabalin. A follow-up operation in Kano led to the arrest of the supplier, Jamilu Muhammad, 41, and the discovery of an additional 1,584,000 pills of tramadol 250mg.
Total Opioid Recovery
The combined seizures from the Jigawa and Kano operations amounted to a staggering 2,001,500 pills of opioids, preventing a massive quantity of dangerous drugs from hitting the streets.
NDLEA’s Commitment
The NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of Lagos, Kano, and Jigawa commands for their outstanding work. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to balancing drug supply reduction with drug demand reduction efforts across the country.
These recent operations highlight the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect Nigerian communities from the devastating effects of drug abuse. The agency’s vigilance and strategic interventions are crucial in the fight against illicit drugs.
