This collaboration, spearheaded by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, aligns perfectly with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of national rebirth. It places a strong emphasis on skills development, youth empowerment, and professional excellence across various sectors. The goal? To transform Nigeria’s architectural and construction landscape.

Getting Certified: NBTE Registration in Progress

ARCON is actively working to register the Kuje center with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). This move will formally integrate the center into Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, ensuring that its programs meet national standards and provide recognized qualifications.

Local Government Partnerships: Spreading the Opportunity

To maximize the center’s impact, ARCON is collaborating with the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). Discussions are in progress to secure sponsorships for local government staff, enabling them to access the Kuje center’s training programs. There are also plans to integrate architects into all 774 local councils, further promoting professional architectural practices nationwide. This decentralization effort aims to extend professional services and ensure quality construction at the grassroots level.

Safety First: Security Measures Implemented

Ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone at the center is a top priority. ARCON is developing comprehensive security enhancement measures to protect participants, facilitators, and visitors. This includes controlled access, surveillance systems, and trained security personnel.

What’s on Offer? Training Programs Galore!

The Kuje center will offer a diverse range of programs, including:

• Summer Skill Acquisition Camp: A three-week program targeting primary (Grades 4-6) and junior secondary school (JSS 1-3) students, designed to integrate practical skills into early education. This aligns with the Federal Government’s broader initiative to promote vocational training from a young age.
• Artisan Certification Program: Focusing on essential construction skills such as masonry, plumbing, tiling, floor finishing, painting, Plaster of Paris (POP), and electrical installation. Participants will receive industry-standard certifications upon completion.
• Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with various organizations to provide industry-recognized certifications, enhancing the employability of graduates.
