Why This Matters
The SASMO award ceremony isn’t just about handing out medals. It highlights the crucial role of mathematics education in developing critical thinking and analytical skills. It’s a platform for students to shine and for educators to share effective teaching methods. It shows how recognizing and nurturing mathematical talent can help students excel and pursue their passions.
SASMO provides a platform for students to showcase their talents and for educators to share best practices in mathematics teaching. The ministry of education was represented by the director of special duty and director of private and government secondary schools and they joined in celebrating the milestone of the outstanding students.
Looking Ahead
Mrs. Mercy Josiah, the Nigerian Country Partner for SIMCC, is encouraging the Ministry of Education, kind-hearted individuals, organizations, and corporate sponsors to support students from private and public schools. This support would enable them to participate in Olympiad exams, promote mathematics education, and develop critical thinking skills. It would also give students the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the global stage and potentially receive scholarships to world-class universities.
She also mentioned that all medalists and those who received honorable mentions will represent Nigeria in Singapore in July 2025 for the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), with over 50 countries participating.
