Journey to the Holy Sites
The pilgrims started their journey with a visit to Mount Tabor, a place loaded with significance in both the Old and New Testaments. It’s believed to be where the transfiguration of Christ happened and also where Moses and Elijah met. This isn’t just a hill; it’s a place where heaven touched earth!
Mount Tabor also has historical weight beyond the Bible: it’s the site of the Battle of Mount Tabor in the book of Judges. Imagine standing where ancient armies clashed, and where prophets saw visions.
The Mount of Beatitudes
Next, the pilgrims visited the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered his famous Sermon on the Mount. Some scholars even call it the “Constitution of the Kingdom.” It’s a place where pilgrims felt connected to the core teachings of Christianity. Think about it, they were standing where some of the most influential words in history were spoken.
Miracles at the Church of Multiplication
The journey continued to the Church of Multiplication. This is where the miracle of the loaves and fishes is said to have taken place when Jesus fed a huge crowd with just two fish and five loaves of bread. This place is a powerful reminder of Jesus’ supernatural abilities and generosity.
Capernaum: The City of Jesus
Capernaum, often called the City of Jesus, was also on the itinerary. The pilgrims visited St. Peter’s Church, built on the remains of Peter’s house. This is where Jesus is said to have healed Peter’s mother-in-law. Prayers for healing were said for the pilgrims, their families and the entire nation.
Spiritual Cleansing at Sea of Galilee and River Jordan
Pilgrims also experienced a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. The ride was filled with prayers and sermons, but also praise and worship. Can you imagine being on the same waters where Jesus once walked?
Baptism in the Jordan River
The highlight for many was the baptism in the River Jordan, where Jesus himself was baptised by John the Baptist. This experience was life changing for many. For many of the pilgrims it was an unforgettable feeling of spiritual renewal.
Homeward Bound
After a journey that touched the souls of many, the pilgrims headed back to Amman, Jordan. They will be returning to Nigeria on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Their experience shows how powerful a spiritual pilgrimage can be.
