Team Nigeria is absolutely crushing it at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games happening right now in Riyadh! We’ve just added more shiny gold medals to our collection, thanks to the incredible efforts of our wrestlers and the lightning-fast ladies of the women’s 4x100m relay. It was a night of pure triumph!
The National Sports Commission’s Director-General, Bukola Olapade, through his Special Adviser Kola Daniel, confirmed the fantastic news on Thursday. It’s official: Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with on the international stage!
Wrestling Warrior Claims Gold
In the electrifying 53kg freestyle wrestling final, our very own Christiana Ogunsanya showed everyone how it’s done. She totally dominated her opponent from Uzbekistan, Shokhida Akhmedova, with a score of 11-1. That’s not just a win, that’s a statement! Christiana’s gold medal is well-deserved and a huge moment for Nigerian wrestling.
Relay Queens Break Records
But the excitement didn’t stop there! The night was crowned by an absolutely stunning performance from our women’s 4x100m relay team. Bada Toyin, Ezechukwu Miracle, Omokwe Maria, and Nweke Cynthia ran like the wind, clocking an amazing time of 44.27 seconds to snatch the gold. They left Bahrain’s team in the dust (they got silver with 44.47s), and Gambia took bronze (45.05s). These ladies are pure speed demons!

Nigeria’s medal haul isn’t just about gold. We’ve also scooped up an additional two silver medals and three bronze medals, showing the depth of talent across various disciplines.

Even in wrestling, Miesinnei Genesis battled fiercely in the women’s 50kg freestyle final. While she narrowly missed out on gold to Aktenge Keunimjaeva of Uzbekistan, losing 5-1, her silver medal is a proud achievement and showcases her talent.
