Massive Drug Bust in Kaduna! NDLEA Nabs 1,290 Suspects, Seizes Tons of Illicit Substances

Get ready for some shocking numbers! The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna State has been working overtime, and their efforts have paid off in a big way. They’ve taken down a massive number of drug offenders and seized a mind-blowing quantity of illegal substances. This is a huge win in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.

  • 1,290 Suspects Arrested: A significant number of individuals involved in drug-related activities were apprehended.
  • 4,589.361kg of Drugs Seized: The haul includes a variety of dangerous substances.
  • Guns and Ammo Confiscated: Illegal firearms and ammunition were also seized.
  • Counterfeit Money Recovered: A substantial amount of fake naira notes were intercepted.
  • 155 Convictions Secured: Those arrested faced justice with prison sentences.

NDLEA’s Crackdown on Drug Crime

The NDLEA’s Kaduna State Command has been on a mission to wipe out drug abuse and trafficking, and their methods have been highly effective. According to Commander Samaila Danmalam, they’ve conducted numerous raids and operations, leading to the arrest of a whopping 1,290 suspects between January and December 2024. These aren’t just casual drug users; they’re the big players, the traffickers, and the enablers who are driving this crime.

What Was Seized?

The sheer volume of drugs confiscated is staggering. The NDLEA seized 4,589.361kg of various hard drugs including:

  • Cocaine
  • Marijuana
  • Methamphetamine
  • Tramadol
  • Rohypnol
  • Other psychotropic substances

But it doesn’t end there. The NDLEA also intercepted 2,023 rounds of 9mm and 7.62mm ammunition and two firearms, including an English pistol and a locally made one. Adding to the complexity of their work, the agency also discovered a stash of counterfeit naira notes amounting to N4.8 million and dismantled 124 drug joints.

More Than Just Raids

The NDLEA understands that the battle against drugs can’t be won through arrests alone. Commander Danmalam emphasized the importance of education, counselling, and rehabilitation. In 2024, they intensified their sensitization campaigns, offering drug users support and rehabilitation to help them reintegrate into society as productive members.

Justice Served

The agency has been relentless in bringing these criminals to justice. 189 suspects were prosecuted in court, and an impressive 155 of them were convicted. These individuals received prison sentences ranging from two to 15 years. This is a clear message that drug-related crimes will not be tolerated.

Community Support Is Key

The NDLEA acknowledges that they can’t do this alone. They expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State Government, traditional leaders, civil society groups, and the media for their support and collaboration. They also call on the public to provide timely information to help them achieve a drug-free state. Remember, if you see something, say something, and let’s make our community safer together!

This bust is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the NDLEA. They’re sending a clear message to drug traffickers that their activities will not go unpunished. Let’s hope this success continues.
